Luggage & Packing Essentials

Before we delve into what to pack, let’s start with what to pack in! To travel like a pro, being equipped with appropriate luggage, carry-on bags, and organizers is essential. Here are some fan-favorite packing essentials that will ensure you pack all your belongings perfectly and remain organized while on vacation.

Carry-On Backpack

Having a well-designed backpack with the right storage, organization, and comfortable carrying options can make a huge difference during travel. I prefer a backpack with a laptop sleeve, a luggage passthrough, plenty of pockets, and a suitcase-style opening to access my belongings and stay organized. Here are a few of my favorite options:

High Quality/Stylish Luggage

I spent most of my life using old suitcases passed down from my parents. Finally, I decided to invest in high-quality luggage that looks good and meets my personal travel requirements. It was definitely worth it!

Many luggage brands are available today, offering a variety of styles, colors, and convenient features to suit everyone’s needs. A few of my favorite brands (that are worth the investment) are BÉIS Travel, Calpak, and Target and Amazon are honorable mentions if you are looking for something more affordable.

Packing Cubes

Are you tired of cramming your belongings in your bag, hoping it will fit, and then struggling to find what you need? Packing cubes are a super-convenient packing solution that allows you to keep your belongings neatly folded and grouped with similar items, so you can easily locate what you need. They are perfect for keeping things organized within your suitcase or carry-on bag, and I personally also like to use them to stay organized once I arrive at my destination!

Hanging Toiletry Bag

When you travel, you may not always find spacious bathroom countertops to lay out all your toiletries. Sometimes things may not go as planned, and you may need to refresh yourself in an airport bathroom or while on the go. That’s why having a toiletry bag that can be hung is a game-changer. The convenience of having organized compartments, and the ability to use both hands while it hangs makes searching for your essentials a breeze!

Calpak – Terra Hanging Toiletry Bag

This hanging toiletry bag features a water-resistant interior, collapsible hanging hook, buckle closure and an exterior toothbrush stand keeping your bathroom must-haves clean, dry, and easy to access.

Foldable Tote Bag

A great travel hack is to always carry an extra foldable tote with you. These totes can be folded up compactly, so they won’t take up much space in your luggage, yet they can be used for a variety of purposes during your travels. Whether you need a shopping bag, a beach tote, or an extra carry-on for your return flight after a shopping spree, these totes offer practical solutions without occupying unnecessary space. I always pack a tote on every trip I take, and I always end up using it!

Fanny Pack/Sling Bag

A fanny pack is another item that I always bring with me when I travel. It’s convenient to keep my passport and airport essentials in an easily accessible bag while traveling so that I don’t have to set down my larger bag and scramble through it. It’s also essential to have a small, casual bag that I can wear with anything to carry my phone, wallet, and daily essentials when I don’t need to carry an entire tote or backpack. It’s also a safe option because I can wear the bag on the front of my body, making it very difficult for anyone to snoop around in my belongings.

UNIQLO

BÉIS Travel

Travel Jewelry Organizer

I have always had trouble finding an efficient way to pack my jewelry while keeping it organized and untangled. Luckily, there are now plenty of cute and practical jewelry organizers available in different sizes and styles to meet everyone’s needs.

Passport All In One Case

It is incredibly convenient to have all of your essential travel identification and information in one easily accessible place. I’ve misplaced my passport countless times and it always gives me a mini heart attack before realizing that it’s just thrown in my bag with no organization whatsoever.

Having a specific holder for your passport is helpful to ensure that you always know where it is and protect it from damage. This passport holder, from Amazon, even has a place to attach your AirTag so that you never have to worry about losing track of your passport!

Small Wet Bag

If you’re planning to engage in any kind of water activity during your travel, it’s a smart move to carry a small waterproof bag to keep your phone and valuables dry. In case you know that you’ll be spending more time on the water, I would suggest investing in a large wet bag that can protect all your belongings. However, for most people, a waterproof phone bag or a small fanny pack-sized wet bag would be sufficient to ensure that your valuables remain dry and safe.

In-Flight Essentials

Many women experience anxiety during long flights. I too have felt anxious during extended travel days. However, I have found that being over-prepared with items to ensure physical comfort, entertainment/distractions, and relaxation aids can make the journey a million times easier.

Comfortable Neck Pillow

To ensure a comfortable long flight, I always make sure to have some kind of neck support. Being able to sleep without straining my neck helps me to have a stress-free journey. In the past, I didn’t like traditional neck pillows because they were uncomfortable and difficult to carry around. Fortunately, there are now many new and innovative designs for neck pillows that are much more comfortable and easy to pack in your carry-on bag.

Phone Mount

It is always a good idea to be prepared for a flight with different options to keep yourself occupied and pass the time. Personally, I always download movies and TV shows on my phone before the flight so that I can watch them without the need for Wi-Fi, in case the airplane’s in-flight entertainment options are not up to the mark. Additionally, this phone mount, priced at $12, can be attached to almost anything, allowing you to watch your screen hands-free and comfortably, whether you’re on a bus, train, or airplane. I find this gadget to be extremely useful for traveling.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise-cancelling headphones are a travel essential. You never know what your surroundings will be like on a plane. You could be seated next to a crying baby (as it has happened to me before), someone coughing, or even an extremely loud plane engine. In all cases, you don’t have to endure intolerable noise and count down the clock until the flight is over. Instead, be prepared and peacefully tune out anything. Trust me, you’ll thank me for the advice someday!

Bluetooth Headphone Adapter

Although the phone mount that I mentioned earlier is ideal for watching entertainment on your phone, there might be times when the movies and TV shows that are offered on the plane are too good to resist! In such cases, it is important to ensure that you can watch what you want with the comfort of your own headphones.

However, many planes nowadays have personal entertainment screens attached to the back of the seat in front of you that only work with standard headphone jacks. This can be quite annoying since most headphones today are Bluetooth-enabled. With this simple Bluetooth adapter, you can connect your own headphones to any device with a headphone jack. This can also be useful if you are renting a car that does not have Bluetooth set up and you want to play audio from your phone.

Sarong or Scarf

Why are some flights uncomfortably warm and some too cold? Although I don’t have an answer to this question, I always like to be prepared for either situation when I fly. I start by wearing layers that I can easily take on and off, and I also make sure to keep a scarf (for cold weather trips) or a sarong (for warm weather trips) in my carry-on luggage.

These versatile accessories are my must-haves for every trip, but I always keep them in my carry-on just in case the flight is too cold and I need to wrap myself up to stay warm. I have experienced this situation one too many times, and now I am always grateful for having kept this in my carry-on instead of my checked luggage.

Skincare

Taking care of your skin while on a plane can be beneficial for several reasons. Bringing some easy-to-apply skincare products can help you distract yourself and pass the time. Additionally, it can be a relaxing experience that helps reduce anxiety and nervousness. Moreover, good skincare practices can prevent breakouts and keep your skin healthy and fresh while being exposed to the germs and bacteria that come along with traveling.

Kindle

Reading is a wonderful way to spend your leisure time! Although taking a book with you is a great option, I personally prefer using a kindle due to its lightweight and space-saving design. Rather than carrying several books during your vacation, you can easily pack this device that provides access to infinite books! Additionally, it boasts an exceptional battery life and a paper-like screen that does not reflect sunlight.

If you don’t have a Kindle yet, this is your sign.

Healthy Snacks

I know this might sound like overpreparation, but I always make sure to pack snacks when I travel. I’ve noticed that traveling tends to upset my stomach, and having snacks that I know won’t make me feel worse gives me peace of mind. It also helps to alleviate my anxiety during flights, knowing that I won’t be stuck on the plane without anything to eat. I’ve been delayed before, and having a little snack with me kept me from getting hangry.

I usually buy snacks before I travel so I can be fully stocked with snacks that I trust. It’s not always easy to find on-the-go snacks that are healthy, so I prefer to be prepared.”

Calming Essential Oils

When you are traveling, certain essential oils can be your ultimate relaxation companion. I personally like to apply a little dab on my inner wrist and take some deep breaths. Lavender oil is a great stress-buster and it’s perfect for soothing your mind during long flights. Peppermint oil is refreshing and revitalizing, helping to combat travel fatigue. This set of essential oil roll-ons is ideal for travel… it’s like having Zen in a bottle!

Luxurious Eye Mask

I was once on a nighttime flight where the overhead lights were never turned off. This was a new experience for me and it caused me a great deal of frustration because I couldn’t sleep and felt fatigued. Before this incident, I had never considered using an eye mask while traveling, but at that moment, I was so upset that I didn’t have one.

Women’s Health & Beauty

It can be quite overwhelming to sort through your shower, skincare, and makeup products when packing for a trip. It’s hard to figure out what you need and what you can leave behind. Although everyone has different needs, I believe that there are some things that everyone can benefit from bringing along on any trip.

Filtered Water Bottle

Having a water bottle that comes with a built-in filtration system is incredibly convenient, especially when traveling. It ensures access to clean drinking water wherever you go, which reduces the need to purchase bottled water. This, in turn, minimizes your environmental impact. It is vital to drink clean water, and having a filtration system with you at all times provides peace of mind. Even if you are just filling up at the airport, you have an added layer of safety because you can be sure that the water is properly filtered before you drink it.

The Larq Filtered Water Bottle uses Nano Zero filter technology to improve the taste of water while removing things like lead, heavy metals, chlorine, and more. I also love the look of this water bottle, so clean and sleek! There are also some excellent and affordable reusable water bottle options available on Amazon that you might find amazing.

Health Supplements & Vitamins

When I travel, I often experience frustrating health issues such as stomach problems or the dreaded UTI. However, many helpful supplements are now available to keep you feeling your best.

It’s important to note that I am not a healthcare professional. I do not prescribe or recommend things, this is just what works for me! Please see a doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.

Boric Acid: Are you concerned about the possibility of experiencing discomfort (down there) or a yeast infection while traveling? If so, Boric Acid suppositories will be your new best friend. These suppositories are commonly used to manage vaginal yeast infections and maintain the pH balance in the vagina. By keeping them handy, you can have peace of mind knowing that you won’t have to deal with any uncomfortable symptoms or struggle to find a doctor in an unfamiliar location.

Probiotic: Taking a high-quality probiotic supplement while traveling can be beneficial for any traveler, especially women. It helps support digestive health, strengthens the immune system, and maintains a balanced vaginal flora, reducing the risk of digestive issues and promoting overall well-being while on the go!

Uqora: If you’ve ever had a urinary tract infection (UTI), you know how painful and frustrating they can be. I truly wouldn’t wish getting a UTI while traveling on ANYONE, but unfortunately, it can happen. Personally, I’m prone to UTIs and I had to find a solution to avoid going to the doctor and taking antibiotics every time. Luckily, I discovered Uqora, which has greatly improved my life. I carry the Flush lemonade powder with me at all times and drink a packet if I ever feel any UTI symptoms. They have a range of excellent products for women who travel, including a UTI Emergency Kit.

Miralax: There must be some scientific facts behind why travel constipation is so common. Miralax is an effective solution for occasional constipation while traveling. These single dose packs are perfect for packing convenience!

Greens powder: Incorporating a daily greens powder into your routine while traveling can help you maintain a balanced nutrient intake and support overall well-being. It’s a super convenient way to ensure you’re getting essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants even when your diet may be less predictable! I also find that taking a greens powder can help me stay more regular which is always a struggle when traveling.

Makeup & Skincare

It’s important to understand that people have different preferences when it comes to makeup and how much they like to pack for a trip. Moreover, the amount of makeup you pack also depends on the type of trip you’re taking. For instance, if you’re attending a fancy destination wedding, you’ll likely need to pack more makeup items than if you’re going on a laid-back beach vacation. Nonetheless, there are some essential makeup items that I always bring with me on every trip.

Tinted moisturizer:

Lightweight daytime face moisturizer:

Gentle face wash:

Multipurpose Skin Oil

Using a concentrated, multi-purpose skin oil while traveling can be incredibly convenient as it saves a lot of space in your luggage. My personal favorite is Skin Fuel from Akamai Basics. It is my go-to product when I’m traveling because it can replace so many other products such as face lotion, body lotion, facial cleanser, shaving cream, hair oil, and after-sun cream with just one bottle. Moreover, it has the purest ingredients and contains no water or fillers, so one bottle takes up very little space and lasts for months.

Non-Liquid Body Care Products

This is one of my favorite travel hacks that I feel like more people should be talking about! Rather than bringing a silly “travel-sized” amount of your liquid personal care products, consider finding a non-liquid alternative that will have no problem making it through TSA. Besides, non-liquid options tend to have cleaner and less chemical-filled ingredients, which is a win-win situation.

Booty Bands

Staying motivated while traveling can be challenging. However, I have found a simple yet effective solution to elevate any workout – carrying a workout band with me. With so many at-home workout options available online, it can be overwhelming to find the right workout that suits my fitness goals. However, searching for banded workouts has given me much-needed direction and saved me a lot of time.

Period Cup

I had been hesitant to try using a menstrual cup for a long time, but when I considered it more carefully, I realized that it is a much better option compared to tampons and pads. Menstrual cups are a more sustainable choice as they require fewer single-use materials. They are reusable and eliminate the need to constantly worry about running out of tampons or buying more. In fact, many women have found menstrual cups to be a more effective solution than other alternatives.

Cycle Tracking Device

As I learn more about the impact of hormonal birth control on women’s health, I’m increasingly interested in encouraging them to consider alternatives. When it comes to travel, ditching birth control means one less item to pack and fewer prescriptions to worry about. Fertility awareness can be a safe and effective option for monitoring your body’s natural rhythm. For a complete fertility tracking solution, I recommend TempDrop – an app and armband that tracks your temperature while you sleep. Other gadgets that can help you track your ovulation are your Apple Watch or the Oura Ring!

Light Blocking Blackout Stickers

Getting good sleep is essential while traveling to stay in rhythm and feel and look your best. You might not always know the details of your sleeping arrangements, but it’s important to create a peaceful sleeping environment to get high-quality sleep. Random lights and blue light from electronic devices can be bothersome and disrupt your sleep. You can use blackout stickers to eliminate these distractions and ensure a peaceful sleeping environment.

Natural Deodorant

I know that we all want to smell fresh, but deodorant can contain harmful ingredients. Consider either eliminating deodorant altogether or finding a more natural option that does not include toxic chemicals that can disrupt your body.

Electrolytes

Staying hydrated while traveling is crucial, and sometimes drinking plain water may not be enough. It is important to ensure that you are also receiving proper electrolytes to maintain optimal hydration. I personally feel a lot better when I make sure to get my daily dose of electrolytes. My go-to electrolyte powder is LMNT, which is easy to pack, has zero sugar, and tastes like pure, salty goodness.

Natural Wipes

Having natural wipes on hand can be very helpful in various situations. For instance, if you accidentally spill something on yourself, or you realize that there is no toilet paper in the bathroom, or you just want to feel a little fresher after a long flight, these wipes can come in handy. It may seem like an unnecessary precaution, but just imagine spilling a drink on yourself and having to spend the rest of the day feeling sticky. With natural wipes, you can quickly clean yourself up and avoid any uncomfortable situations while on the go.

Makeup Remover Towel

These reusable makeup remover cloths are an excellent sustainable option that can help you save space in your makeup bag while also saving you money from frequently having to buy single-use makeup remover wipes. I was surprised by how effectively this product worked, and since then, I have never gone back to using single-use makeup wipes.

Tech Items

I grew up traveling with my dad who always had a bag full of mysterious cords that I never understood. However, looking back, I realized that we always had charged cameras and the right cord to plug into any device. It can be such a hassle to forget a charger while traveling or having to buy a new tech appliance because it can be expensive. By carrying the essentials listed below, you can ensure a stress-free journey and ultimate organization.

Portable Bluetooth Speaker

A portable speaker is an essential accessory for any traveler who wants to have fun. Whether you’re listening to some tunes while cooking breakfast at your Airbnb or bringing the good vibes to a beach day with friends, having a high-quality, portable speaker is always a great idea!

The Bose Soundlink Micro is perfect for travel. It’s compact, lightweight, and delivers excellent sound quality. It’s also waterproof and comes with a convenient strap for carrying or hanging.

All-purpose Cord/Adapter

This is something that is always useful to have. It’s great to be able to consolidate a big collection of cords into one easy-to-use device that works with most devices. I’m always pleased when I have an HDMI cord that I can plug into a hotel TV or when I can connect my camera to my computer. It’s wonderful to have a single, multipurpose adapter that can assist you with all of your technology needs.

Tech Organizer

When I try to consolidate my tech items for travel, I always bring more cords and chargers than I need. That’s why having a designated travel organizer for tech items is so helpful. It saves you the hassle of having to dig through cords and potentially misplace things while on the go. Recently, I purchased one such organizer and it has quickly become one of my favorite travel essentials for women.

Portable Charger

It is always a good idea to carry an extra power bank with you in case of emergencies. Whether you are spending the entire day exploring and run out of battery before returning home, or the power goes out and you need to charge up, having an extra power bank can be a lifesaver.

Smart Watch

Having a smartwatch while traveling is a smart move. Keep tabs on health metrics like steps, heart rate, and sleep quality. Plus, leave your phone behind and go for a run, knowing you can still track your route, listen to music, and stay connected on your wrist. Fitness and freedom, all in one!

Universal Outlet

No matter where you are, or what type of outlet is available, you will be able to charge your devices! Need I say more?

Apple Air Tag

If you often find yourself misplacing your belongings, AirTags can be of great help. You can attach an AirTag to your luggage or any other important item and easily track its location using your iPhone. With AirTags, you no longer have to worry about losing your valuable items, as they provide peace of mind and make finding your stuff a breeze. So, get ready to travel without any stress and enjoy your journey!

Packable Tripod

Whether you’re an experienced content creator or simply enjoy taking photos for fun, a tripod can make a huge difference. It enables you to effortlessly capture group shots and set up your ideal photo with ease. I personally adore this phone tripod for its compact design – it’s so convenient to pop into any bag!

Clothing, Shoes & Accessories

Packing smart and consciously for a trip is key for a smoother journey. By packing only what you need, you save space and make it easier to find things. Thinking about the weather and activities ensures you’re prepared for anything.

Comfortable Walking Shoes

It’s essential to prioritize foot support and comfort over style when it comes to long travel days that involve a lot of walking. Fortunately, there are many excellent options available on the market that offer both style and functionality.

The definition of an “ideal walking shoe” varies depending on the individual and the nature of their travel. Therefore, it is essential to take into account factors such as weather conditions, terrain type, and your foot and overall body health while selecting the appropriate shoes to provide the best support for your journey.

Rain Jacket

It’s always a good idea to travel with a rain jacket, as it prepares you for any unexpected weather conditions, and it doesn’t take up much space in your luggage. You’ll find a wide variety of rain jackets available in the market. When selecting a rain jacket, it is important to consider the expected weather conditions; do you need a warm jacket or a lightweight shell that you can throw on during a tropical storm?

Athleisure Clothing

Athleisure wear is a clothing style that blends athletic and leisure apparel, making it perfect for any adventure. Athleisure wear is perfect for traveling women as it offers a combination of comfort, versatility, and style, ensuring they stay ready for any adventure while looking effortlessly cute.

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for athleisure wear:

Hiking Shoes

If you are planning to go hiking or trekking on your upcoming trip, I highly recommend investing in a proper hiking shoe. Instead of wearing regular sneakers, wearing high-quality hiking shoes makes a significant difference. By selecting the right shoe, you will gain enhanced safety and comfort during your hike.

Quality Basics

Packing good basics is essential as they offer versatility, allowing you to mix and match with other items, so you will always be able to put an outfit together.

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for basics for travel:

Tops You Can Wear Without A Bra

I love tops that provide enough support for the girlies without requiring a bra. They are my favorite because they make it easy to put them on and go, without having to worry about getting another item of clothing dirty. With these tops, you can feel comfortable and confident while traveling. Say goodbye to uncomfortable bras and hello to hassle-free outfit choices!

Comfortable Bra

Although I’m not a huge fan of bras, I always appreciate having a comfortable one while traveling, especially for certain occasions.

Here are some top-rated bras and bralettes that I can’t get enough of:

100% Cotton Underwear

It’s time to ditch polyester! Cotton underwear is an excellent choice for female health because it allows for better breathability, reducing the risk of moisture and bacterial buildup that can lead to infections. Additionally, cotton underwear offers comfort and minimizes irritation on sensitive skin areas. If you are looking for high-quality, organic cotton products, Pact is an amazing, sustainable company that you should consider.

Quality Pajamas

It’s important to sleep in high-quality, breathable fabrics that won’t irritate your skin. I love cutie little matching pajama sets, and here are some of my favorites to pack for trips:

Waterproof Shoes

A waterproof slip-on shoe is a must-have when you’re traveling. It’s a versatile footwear option that allows you to face unexpected rainstorms or shared hostel bathrooms without sacrificing comfort or style.

If you’re traveling to a colder climate, you might want to consider some high quality rain boots that won’t take up too much space in your suitcase.

Hat For Sun Protection

Whether you are trying to quickly cover up a bad hair day or give your face some extra shade on a sunny day, it is always a good idea to have at least one hat that you love with you when you’re traveling. Personally, I love a good bucket hat, stylish baseball hat, or trucker hat.

Swimsuits

The goal is for women to feel comfortable and confident going to the beach (or anywhere) in their favorite swimsuits. Nowadays, it is not easy to find swimsuits that perfectly match your preferences, but don’t worry, there are still some fantastic brands out there that can cater to your needs.

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for swimwear:

Waterproof Jewelry

I enjoy packing jewelry and accessories for my trips, but I have noticed that when I’m traveling, inexpensive jewelry tends to tarnish easily or break apart. That’s why investing in waterproof and durable jewelry is worth it, as it lasts longer and requires less maintenance.

If you are a gold jewelry girly like myself, you are going to want to hear this. You do not need to pay a million dollars for name brand jewelry that ends up tarnishing! Gold-fill jewelry lasts forever and I find all my gold-fill pieces on Etsy for amazing prices.

Merino Wool

Merino wool is a fabric with essentially perfect qualities for traveling. It is naturally antibacterial and moisture-wicking, meaning it never smells and you can wear it for WEEKS before needing to wash it. It is superfine/soft, doesn’t wrinkle and offers excellent breathability + insulation, ensuring warmth in chilly conditions while keeping you cool, dry, and comfortable during hot weather. Unbound Merino has a great selection of products perfect for travel.

Safety

Taking safety precautions when traveling as a woman is essential for a worry-free trip. Being aware of your surroundings and trusting your instincts can help you avoid risky situations. There are also some items you can pack to help you feel safe and comfortable.

Hotel Door Saftey Lock

This portable door lock provides an additional layer of security and privacy when staying at a hotel. As a woman who travels, it is a simple yet effective measure to ensure your safety.

Keychain Flashlight

These cute keychain flashlights are convenient and can help you feel less scared of the dark. Not to mention, they are cute!

Personal Alarm Keychain

Since pepper spray is not TSA-friendly, this alarm keychain is a great option if you are looking to carry an added layer of self-defense.

Anti-Theft Bags

Anti-theft bags are beneficial for female travelers, providing security for belongings and deterring potential theft attempts.

Travel Insurance

Finding reliable and affordable travel insurance is now easier than ever. With a wide range of options available, travelers can protect themselves against unforeseen circumstances, ensuring peace of mind without breaking the bank.

Online Travel Resources & Travel Apps

Resort Pass

ResortPass is SO FUN. It allows you to purchase a “day pass” to some of the nicest resorts, granting you access to a wide range of luxury resort amenities including breathtaking pools, private beaches, deluxe spas, and top fitness facilities. This is the perfect way to have a boujee “me day” for all the budget travel ladies who don’t want to spend the $$ on a hotel room!

Hopper

As a frequent traveler, Hopper can be your ultimate ally. It offers a lot of great budget travel resources. My favorite feature is its flight watching tool that keeps an eye on airfare prices. It tells you if it’s a good idea to wait before purchasing to see if prices drop, and notifies you when they do. With Hopper, you can say goodbye to endless browsing and effortlessly snag the best deals.
