Nestled in Costa Rica’s captivating Guanacaste province, Tamarindo is a prime travel spot for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and anyone who loves a lively town. It’s conveniently reachable, only a little over an hour’s drive from Liberia Airport. The charming town is filled with beachy shops, delicious restaurants, and hotels for any occasion. And get ready to see (and hear) the howler monkeys!

Tamarindo is one of many amazing destinations in Costa Rica. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend leaving some time to explore other locations within the country and take advantage of some of the unique things to do across Costa Rica!

Things You Should Know Before Visiting Tamarindo

Costa Rica has two distinct seasons: the dry season (locally known as “summer”), which runs from December to April, offers sunny weather and is ideal for outdoor activities and beach vacations. On the other hand, the rainy season (referred to as the “green season”) spans from May to November, characterized by brief but intense afternoon showers. This season results in lush landscapes and fewer tourists, providing a quieter atmosphere for exploration.

When it comes to packing, my pro tip is to pack super light! Costa Rica stays very warm year round and you typically won’t even need a sweater. Keep it simple with just your travel essentials, swimsuits/beachwear, a couple of athletic outfits, and some casual clothes that you won’t mind sweating in!

21 Unique Things To Do In Tamarindo, Costa Rica

1. Langosta Tide Pools

Tamarindo’s tides shift roughly every 5-6 hours, transitioning between high and low. This activity is only possible during low tide, so be sure to check the schedule or get updates here. When the tide ebbs, take a leisurely 15-minute walk from Tamarindo’s town center to Langosta Beach.

Here, you’ll discover a serene and untouched shoreline. As the tide recedes, captivating rock pools appear, offering a chance for a peaceful swim in warm waters while observing crabs and creatures in their natural habitat.

5. Catamaran Sunset Cruise

Tamarindo offers various sunset catamaran cruises departing each afternoon. While they might be a bit pricey at around $100, they’re well worth it for special occasions.
